Northrop Grumman Consulting Engineer Systems (Must have current and active secret clearance to be considered) in Clearfield, Utah
Northrup Grumman Innovation Systems is currently seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to provide leadership within our Advanced Composite Structures team in Clearfield, Utah.
Position requires demonstrated experience in the design, testing and manufacturing of composite aerospace structures. Production program experience in assembly processes, both bonded and fastened, is preferred. Candidate must have leadership experience and knowledge of design methods and standards, composite manufacturing techniques, and production management systems. Prefer candidates with experience in composite structures and history of working directly for, or supplying to, major US prime contractors.
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Security Clearance Requirements:
- Active DoD Security Clearance within 5 ½ years of last investigation
BS Degree in an applicable engineering discipline (ME, AE, Civil) or equivalent experience
20+ years of applicable aerospace engineering experience with a minimum of 10 years of aerospace composite manufacturing experience
10+ years demonstrated leadership experience
Excellent skills in interpersonal communication, writing, and presentations to leadership and customer project management
Technical Job Requirements:
Aircraft Structure Demonstrated experience and knowledge of primary and secondary aircraft structures. Experience with composite manufacturing and assembly methods, systems, materials, and processes. Prefer experience with advanced composite materials and manufacturing processes.
Design / Manufacturing Process Demonstrated experience and expert knowledge of composite aircraft design, production, and build processes (e.g., hand layup, automated fiber placement, secondary bonding, autoclave cure, machining, NDI, paint/coatings, hardware assembly, wiring and hydraulic installation, and dimensional GD&T) to effectively influence product design and manufacturing processes. Advanced knowledge of CDM (Configuration Data Management) methods.
Engineering Analysis Functional knowledge in Design and Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (D/PFMEA). Functional knowledge in root cause / corrective action processes and techniques (Fish Bone, 8D, Kepner Tregoe, etc.)
Provide technical leadership to the program and manufacturing teams
Efficiently lead cross functional teams
Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities
Confer with management, customers, operations, and engineering staff to discuss project specifications and procedures
Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
Manage and support design/manufacturing approaches to cost strategies
Technical oversight for proposals
Review and approve process and design changes
Ensure product designs compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements and related specifications
Configuration Control Board (CCB) chair person
Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed
Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings
Consult or negotiate with customers to prepare project requirements and specifications
Technical lead over the Material Review Board (MRB)
Drives risk management
Mentoring of manufacturing engineers
