Position Summary


We are the Purple Innovations Team. We are a fast-growing group of technical experts, product innovators, and creative problem solvers. Our mission is simple; drive measurable business value by iterating designs, testing hypothesis, and delivering complete product definition to deliver compelling and truly innovative products that create Purple customers for life.



We are looking for an experienced and proven product champion who is organized in thought and process, but not afraid of chaos or getting their hands dirty. In this role, you will have three primary responsibilities; own the development of new amazing products for Purple, from research ideas to handoff for commercialization, lead teams of skilled techs and suppliers to get prototypes made, and   validate the products truly solve our customer’s needs in new and innovative ways.



  • Own, and manage product development for new innovative Purple products

  • Prioritize, guide, and implement product development work

  • Establish protocols, goals, and metrics based on project needs 

  • Gather all data from the varied research and development activities to present findings and demonstration value to Innovation Team and other stakeholders 

  • Support and lead the planning and implementation meetings 

  • Manage information distribution and input to product design 

  • Provide regular communication to management on progress, plans, goals, and market trends 

  • Identify equipment and systems that will increase the capabilities of product development at Purple  



  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 5+ years of demonstrated success in product development for consumer products

  • A creative problem solver who isn’t afraid to fail

  • Skilled at analyzing customer’s root problems to direct product design strategies

  • A solid understanding of Soft Goods product development, including communication of design intent with documentation for in-house and out sourced supply chains

  • Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes to develop designs which are cost-effective and reliable

  • A strong individual contributor who can prioritize well, communicate in a compelling manner, drive organizational excellence, and positively influence teams

  • Experience managing a hands-on technical staff helpful

  • A highly self motivated individual who identifies their own strengths and weaknesses to bring in help as needed and in a timely manner

  • The ability to manage lab and user testing to obtain feedback with quantitative and qualitative data and drive design decisions

  • Excellent oral and visual communication skills as well as analytical and creative thinking skills that can inspire and motivate team members and leadership alike, to focus toward recommended product opportunities

  • The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, personal initiative, and accountability while embracing a collaborative approach

  • Excellent written and verbal presentation and communication skills 

  • Experience managing a hands-on technical staff helpful

  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office Suite applications

  • Fluency in Spanish language beneficial

  • An interest in working in a fast paced well managed agile scrum based environment

  • Experience with Workfront or other project management software helpful

  • Passion for making great products through research and development and for sharing their knowledge and findings with others
