Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Flight Test Engineer the System Test Team. This position will start in El Segundo, CA and will transition to Vandenberg, CA in the future. This position supports the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. Learn more about the GBSD program here.

A successful candidate for this position will:

  • Develop and publish Integrated Test Plans, detailed test plans, test schedules, and test procedures for developmental testing.

  • Support integration testing and test flight activities at remote sites.

  • Support and host test planning working groups while interfacing with internal and customer teams to establish test configuration, obtain any necessary certifications and define data requirements.

  • Review and evaluate test requirements to ensure completeness of test program.

  • Perform technical analysis of complete systems and prepare comprehensive system level reports.

  • Support test readiness reviews and pre/post-test briefings.

  • Provide mission control room support and makes real-time decisions regarding safety, efficiency, and effectiveness.

  • Perform pre and post-test data analyses to support anomaly identification and resolution.

  • Participate in facility refurbishment activities to assure facility capabilities meet program schedule while identifying and burning down any potential schedule risks.

  • This position requires outstanding written and oral communications skills. Individual must be able to work under only general direction to determine and develop approaches to solutions; must be able to work both within a team environment and independently; must be self- motivated, thorough, and detailed; and must be willing to learn additional engineering discipline areas.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Qualifications:

This position may be filled at the Principal or Senior Principal level.

Basic Qualifications for Principal level:

  • 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (or equivalent STEM degree); 3 years of relevant experience with an engineering Masters' degree; 0 years of relevant experience with an engineering PhD

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance with completed investigation within the last 6 years

  • Previous experience with testing of integrated complex systems

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal level:

  • 9 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (or equivalent STEM degree); 7 years of relevant experience with an engineering Masters' degree; 4 years of relevant experience with an engineering PhD

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance with completed investigation within the last 6 years

  • Previous experience with testing of integrated complex systems

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; strong interpersonal and analytic skills; works well in a team environment within all levels of the test integrated team structure

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes

  • Prior flight test experience including control room monitoring during test execution

  • Post processing techniques and analysis of flight test instrumentation data

  • Knowledge of government policies and standard operating procedures surrounding a flight test program

  • Prior experience at the Western Test Range

  • Proficient in Integrated Analysis & Data System (IADS) Software

  • Knowledge and use of instrumentation and DAS type systems

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance

Position may require travel up to 50% of the time to support flight test activities
