Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal/Senior Principal Guidance, Navigation and Control Engineer in support of the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) Program. This position will be located in Roy, UT with travel to El Segundo, CA. Initial travel first 3 months will be 50%, then 25% through Q4 2021. This role will continue the maturation of the models and flight simulations used to assess guidance system performance from Preliminary Design phase to a Critical Design Review and beyond. The role includes developing, verifying, and validating the modeling and simulation baseline to enable high confidence assessment of GN&C system performance. The individual will be responsible for using first principles to derive and update models, define test cells to validate existing models, and communicate model data and performance to all relevant teams for incorporation into simulation products.
From these models, the individual will develop and update simulations of subsystem and vehicle performance. The individual will be responsible for the model baseline for all inertial sensor, control effector, and vehicle models used for accuracy and flight trajectory modeling. The individual must be capable of leading a team in a highly dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities. This position reports directly to the GN&C Analysis and Algorithms Lead and receives direct tasking from the GN&C Modeling and Simulation Leads.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
This position may be filled at a higher grade depending on qualifications listed below.
For a Principal Guidance, Navigation, and Control engineer, a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related area and 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related area and 3 years of relevant experience
For a Senior Principal Guidance, Navigation, and Control engineer, a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related area and 10 years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related area and 8 years of relevant experience
Knowledge and experience modeling aerospace vehicles and subsystems, including both linear and nonlinear models.
Knowledge of launch vehicle and/or strategic missile guidance, navigation, and control principles from guidance system turn-on, ground operations, through launch and payload insertion
Active DoD Secret clearance
Extensive knowledge of C++ and Object Oriented Programming
Experience working in an Agile team or even leading a scrum team
Experience in real-time simulation development, including hardware- and software-in-the-loop (HWIL/SWIL) simulation development
Experience in inertial system ground testing and test-like-you-fly methodologies
Experience in thrust vector control (TVC) subsystem performance validation and functional testing
Experience in vehicle-level validation testing, including modal surveys, wind tunnel, and static fire testing
Experience in test case definition to validate model representation of physical truth, and subsequent model updates and maturation based upon lessons learned.
Experience using Monte Carlo analysis techniques to determine algorithm performance under uncertainty
Experience in error covariance modeling methods
Experience and familiarity with high accuracy inertial measurement system instrumentation
Experience and knowledge in principles of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
Model development experience using C++ and Matlab/Simulink
Working knowledge of Object Oriented Programming principles
