Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work on multidiscipline project teams providing mechanical engineering and related technical expertise in our growing Salt Lake City office. The work will primarily serve clients at mining facilities. Other heavy industrial work may include oil, natural gas, and/or power generation facilities. Project assignments may include managing projects; preparing design drawings and specifications; completing engineering calculations and analyses; selecting equipment and components; writing technical reports; preparing sketches for system arrangement; developing details of designs; and preparing cost estimates and bid packages. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in mechanical engineering from an accredited university or related degree

  • 10+ years of related work experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification, or ability to obtain within one year

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office software, computer simulation modeling

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Willingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative

  • Demonstrated project organization and management skills

  • Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

  • Acceptable driving record

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20+ years of working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial workplace

  • Background/experience working on industrial construction projects

  • Client service aptitude and experience

  • Experience working directly with clients

  • Demonstrated project management skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency across multiple technical skills listed below

  • Managing engineering design projects/teams

  • Field work experience within industrial settings (mines, processing plants, refineries, power plants, etc.)

  • Minerals processing, process system design

  • Mechanical equipment design and specification development

  • Material handling system design (crushers, screens, conveyors, etc.)

  • Slurry pipeline systems

  • Pump sizing/specifications

  • Hydraulic calculations for pumping/piping systems

  • Dust collection systems

  • PFD/P&ID development

  • Steam system design

  • Gas compression systems

  • Instrumentation and controls

  • Control valve sizing

  • HVAC sizing/design

  • Plumbing design

  • Piping design for ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, and similar codes

  • Pipe stress analysis with Caesar II or similar software

  • Finite Element Analysis

NOTE:Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
