Our Mining group has a need for a Structural Engineer based out of our Salt Lake City, Utah, office. You would be a key member of the team working with various clients in completing studies and detailed engineering projects for underground and surface mining operations. You would have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, both domestic and international. Your primary role would be as a Lead Structural Engineer with a focus on servicing local clients, while working to build a strong structural group in Utah to work alongside the Chandler, Arizona, team and teams around the world.
Your Key Responsibilities

Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Stantec and its clients.
Ensure all applicable safety codes, regulations, and guidelines are met by appropriate design and use of technology.
Review and analysis of drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issuance to clients.
Structural design and analysis to applicable codes. Typical structures include headframes, hoist houses, collar houses, conveyor and material handling equipment support, equipment foundations, bins, shaft steel structures, and other mine-related infrastructure.
Incorporation of innovation, optimization, and standardization in designs as appropriate, considering constructability and economics.
Completion of fit-for-purpose designs that meet the client’s needs and requests.
Completion of site inspections and condition assessments for mining infrastructure.
Preparation of quality reports and calculation packages as project deliverables.
Working with designers on the project collaboratively to produce design deliverables with the appropriate level of detail.
Interfacing with other disciplines and project management to execute projects per the Project Plan.
Leadership and Business Development
Enhance client relationships and proactively contribute to new and continuing business opportunities.
Provide leadership as a part of the mining structural team and for the local office.
Lead project teams with a focus on meeting client needs.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Experience and knowledge of local clients is an asset.
Strength in analysis and design including structural steel and reinforced concrete.
Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations.
Proficiency in use of STAAD Pro and/or RISA.
Ability to lead execution of structural discipline scope on projects.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and disposition to work in a team atmosphere.
Experience completing inspections and condition assessments of concrete and steel structures.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to client sites or other Stantec offices.
Self-starter with ability to work independently.
The following capabilities would be an asset:
Experience and knowledge of local clients.
Knowledge of Civil 3D, REVIT and/or AutoCAD
Education and Experience
8 to 20 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface and/or underground mining.
A Professional Engineering license in the State of Utah and Wyoming (or the ability to obtain licensure by comity). Licensure or the ability to obtain licenses in other states such as Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado, as needed in the future.
